Voting by post or by proxy

There are other ways to vote if you can’t vote in person or would prefer not to.

• To vote by post, please download an application form from the Electoral Commission and e-mail it to us by 5pm on Tuesday 19 April.
• To appoint someone to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote, please download an application form from the Electoral Commission and e-mail it to us by 5pm on Thursday 26 April.

Your new look poll card

If there are elections in your area, you should have received your poll card. It explains where your polling station is and will also give details of your postal vote, if you’ve registered to vote by post.

Your poll card will look different this year. It’s bigger, as it contains extra information about the need to bring photo ID to polling stations. You don’t need to bring your poll card with you to the polling station, but it is helpful for the poll clerks if you do.

Don’t forget to bring your photo ID to the polling station

If you want to vote in a polling station, you must bring photo ID with you, such as your passport or photo driving licence. If you don’t have acceptable photo ID, you’ll need to apply for a free Voter ID by 5pm on Tuesday 25 April
