The New Bletchingley Cemetery – Progress report

You may not be aware that the old cemetery in the Godstone Road is almost out of space for new burials but you almost certainly will have noticed further along the road towards Godstone the newly built entrance and gates to what will soon become Bletchingley New Cemetery a few months from now.

The lower half of the field will remain as grazing for the medium term while the upper half will incorporate a woodland burial section as well as an extension to the existing traditional cemetery.   The building works were completed a couple of weeks ago thanks to Brett Fry and his team and we are now about to proceed to phase II.    This will comprise drawing up rules, regulations, charges etc. and also include some planting, determining indicative pathways and provision of signage.   Once in use the new gates will be open for pedestrian access and there will also be a pathway joining the two cemeteries.     We hope to be able to open the New Cemetery in early 2021 and we will continue to provide updates in the Village Magazine and on the Bletchingley Parish Website.

If anyone in the village has any landscaping design experience and is willing to help with some free advice and/or if any villagers have access to suitable plants/ hedges/saplings to donate and/or be willing to help us plant please contact Dick Kiss on dickkiss@tops.myzen.co.uk
