Spending time outdoors

Following recent government advice, people can now spend more time outdoors in public spaces enjoying the fresh air with members of your household or with one person who is not in your household, as long as you stay two metres apart. We can now:

  • Exercise outside as long as we want and as many times each day as we like.
  • Use public spaces for picnics, sunbathing or relaxing.
  • Use public allotments and outdoor sports courts or facilities, like tennis or basketball courts.
  • Play golf. Please visit the course’s website for opening details and guidance on social distancing. If you are walking on public footpaths which go through a golf course, please stay on the path to avoid being hit by golf balls.
  • Travel further to enjoy time outside. There are no restrictions on how far we can travel in England, but these journeys should only be made by cycling, walking or driving your car and you should avoid taking public transport.

Guidance on how to enjoy our green spaces safely is also available.
