Bletchingley Players announces closure

A village drama group that has been staging productions for more than 60 years is to close down.

The Bletchingley Players, formerly known as BADS (Bletchingley Amateur Dramatic Society) brought down the final curtain at an emergency meeting of the members when it was decided the group could no longer continue because of lack of support.

Chairman John Tomlin said: “It is a really sad occasion. We have staged hundreds of plays and pantomimes over the years as well as raising money for charity. We still have very supportive and enthusiastic audiences but our membership is the lowest it has ever been.

“There are just not enough actors to cast plays. The past two years have been a real struggle and we have made the reluctant decision to call it a day.”

The Players occupy the former Scout hut on Grange Meadow, Bletchingley where they have stored scenery and held rehearsals for the past five years.

Tandridge District Council are now actively seeking organisations that may want to take over the Hut.

Bletchingley Players will hold a big Yard Sale at the Hut on Saturday April 4th 2020 at which hundreds of items will be on sale for charity.

These include furniture, rugs, bric-a-brac, kitchen equipment, crockery, curios, scenery, lamps, clocks and so much more.

The sale starts at 10.00 am.
