Local Planning Enforcement Plan

Last week’s Planning Policy Committee approved the Local Enforcement Plan, setting out how Tandridge Council monitors planning permissions, investigates alleged cases of unauthorised development and takes action where planning laws have been breached.

The Council is very focused on ensuring development complies with the approved planning application and will take enforcement action where this does not happen. The full plan is available on the Council’s website.

The plan, which covers what developers, their agents and residents can expect from the Council, explains:

  • The Council’s approach to planning enforcement.
  • What planning matters the Council can and cannot investigate.
  • How the Council prioritises planning enforcement cases.
  • How residents can confidentially report a breach of planning control.
  • How developers should handle any complaints about their development(s).
  • Potential outcomes of planning investigations.
  • How the Council will continuously improve its planning enforcement service.

Chair of the Planning Policy Committee, Councillor Keith Jecks, said: “The Council believes it is fundamental to its responsibility as a planning authority to ensure any development is consistent with the approved application. To ensure this is the case, it has worked closely with councillors over the last year to agree how it should tackle breaches of planning law. This plan sets out the Council’s approach to this complex area and makes clear that breaches will be addressed. Where members of the public think a development breaches planning laws, the Council encourages them to report it.”

The Council will also start work in October to review all current planning conditions it applies to planning decisions, to ensure they remain lawful and enforceable. This review will finish by the end of the year, with revised conditions available to use from January 2020.
