A successful community litter pick

On Saturday 28th April, The Hawthorns School worked with Bletchingley Parish Council to organise a community litter pick in and around the village. A small but strong team of locals and Hawthorns families spent the morning picking litter along the roads and in the local green spaces. There were a few litter hot spots, and we picked about 12 bags in total, which will be collected by the council. It was a great opportunity to form links with the local community and get to know our neighbours. We hope to make it into an annual event, in the hope that more people will hear about it and get involved in the future.

This year, we also linked in to Kids against Plastic’s Be Plastic Clever/Blue Peter Celebration 60 event (BPC60). This charity, set up by children, strives to increase awareness of the issues associated with plastic rubbish. They are running a campaign to raise awareness linking to Blue Peter’s 60th anniversary celebrations, and as such have asked schools to run litter picks and create a ’60’ out of the litter picked.

A huge thank you to all who took part – look out for next year’s date!
