North Park Quarry Community Liaision Committee – Signed Terms of Reference

Following several months of productive dialogue between Sibelco UK and representatives from the Parish Councils of Godstone and Bletchingley, the Godstone Village Association (GVA), the Quarry Observation Group (QOG) and the Bletchingley Historical and Conservation Society, the quarry community liaison committee has been re-constituted and re-launched under a new signed Terms of Reference.

The Terms of Reference will form the basis of a framework for future dialogue, based upon mutual trust and open collaboration. This will be complementary to the proper planning regulation set down by Surrey County Council. With past differences now resolved, all parties are seeking to quickly restore the very good working relationship previously enjoyed between Sibelco UK and the local community over many years of operation.

The main cornerstones of the framework are:

  • a comprehensive management plan and investment in new technology through which to monitor and control wind-blown sand during adverse weather conditions
  • Sibelco UK will not allow any further progression of the application to construct a dry silo mortar plant on its land and has agreed that any future development proposals at North Park Quarry will be discussed with the newly constituted Quarry Community Liaison Committee at the earliest opportunity
  • Sibelco UK, in association with the Community Liaison Committee, will seek to divert Bridleway 148 onto the western most end of the current operational area
  • the re-formation of a Community Liaison Committee with a revised constitution facilitating continuous and open two-way communication regarding current and future quarry operations

Whilst recent events have undoubtedly proved damaging, all parties are now firmly committed to moving forward in a positive manner and to rebuilding a mutually productive relationship.
