Bletchingley Playground Friends Update:

Saturday 30th May – “Schools, Friends & Family Swimathon”– The final sum raised from the Swimathon was £2,349.  Total sum raised to date is now just over £35,600.

Comment from Tandridge District Council – “The Governments Department for Children Schools and Families has awarded Surrey County Council £1.1 Million Playbuilder funding for the refurbishment of 22 play areas in the county.  Surrey County Council will be awarding each of the 11 district and borough councils within the county an equal share of the £1.1 million.

Tandridge District Council (TDC) is officially applying for £100,000 for 2 new play areas in the district.  TDC officers have completed a spatial study of the districts play provision to identify the two sites to put forward as successful bids for the funding.  The two sites are Grange Meadow Bletchingley and Stafford Road Caterham.

TDC and BPF have taken the decision to joint fund the new play provision for Bletchingley using the BPF £35k of fund raising money and the £50k Playbuilder funding to create a £85k project for the village.  Officers from TDC are now in the final stages of the funding application and anticipate receiving the £50k for The Grange Meadow project before the end of this financial year. TDC officers and the members of BPF are now in the final stages of making the final decision on the successful playground scheme which has been tendered in the last 3 months in anticipation of the funding application.”

This means that we are now there, subject to final approval of the plans and contractor.  It is hoped that this will be finalised within the next month or so and orders made with work starting in the September / October timeframe.
