Bletchingley Playground Friends Swimathon – Update

On the 30th of May pupils from St. Catherine’s Primary and the Hawthorns School along with parents, friends and teachers took part in a Swimathon to raise funds for the Bletchingley Playground. The Swimathon was a success with a total of 9 teams and 32 swimmers participating. A total of 1141 lengths were swum and all children received a certificate and medal. The most lengths swum by a team was 173 (The Tarrantinos) and the most swum by one individual was 111 (Greg Beasley, a Hawthorns school pupil). The youngest member, Fred Wantling, who is five and a half years old swam six lengths!

Our thanks go to all the helpers on the day including those who manned the cake and refreshment stall, or who generously donated the lovely food. No one ended up guessing the total number of lengths swum by all but the closest was Charlie Tinsley who guessed 1144 and who therefore wins the Prize of a night for two at the Nutfield Priory. We are still collecting all the Sponsorship monies but we are well on our way to raising over a thousand pound which will bring our total funds collected so far to nearly £35k.

Bletchingley Playground Friends would like to thank the Hawthorns School for providing the facilities for the Swimathon and all swimmers who took part. Thanks also go to all the advertisers in the programme for supporting this very worthly cause as well as Gostone Farm, Nutfield Priory Health Club and Spa and the Harlequin Cinema for the prizes.
