To give more residents the chance to help shape future housing services, the consultation period for the East Surrey Housing Strategy for 2009-2013 has been extended to 23 March 2009.

For the last five weeks, residents across East Surrey have been giving their views about the first joint housing strategy between Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge councils.

A short survey on the future of housing services and a draft of the strategy are available on Tandridge District Council’s website at

The East Surrey Housing Strategy, which will set out how the councils will work with other local and national organisations to deliver housing services over the next four years, will be published in July 2009.

Suggestions received so far include:

Giving high priority to providing affordable rented homes, possibly through grants to housing associations.

  • Targeting empty homes and helping older people downsize from larger properties.
  • Reviewing the way affordable homes are allocated to people on the councils’ housing registers.
