The ‘In Bloomers’ continue to honour their commitment to keep Bletchingley blooming despite diminishing numbers within their ranks. On a sunny Saturday morning in October they planted 50 kg of Daffodil bulbs toward the east end of the Village hoping to achieve the welcoming sight already experienced by travelling going West along the A25. The following Saturday they pruned and tidied all the perennial beds in preparation for the Winter.
Many ask why Bletchingley no longer enters the South and South East in Bloom competition, part of the Britain in Bloom. Put simply it is due to insufficient support and lack of interest from Bletchingley people. Many admire the results of the ‘In Bloomer’s’ labours and some are kind enough to say so but it needs more than this. Congratulations to Tatsfield for winning the ‘Best Large Village’ Award and Gold for its floral displays and community spirit. To achieve this they have 80 volunteers working every week of the year!. Bletchingley in Bloom did receive Silver Gilt Awards for the years they entered in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. The hard core team of up to 12 continue to meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month for a Work Party. If you wish to join the team please ring Pamela Cock on 01883 743 171.
